High Street Honey
After writing that I felt like a princess in my fur coat, I was reminded of what I think could be the greatest asset to British fashion...Kate Middleton. Controversial I know, and I have never been much of a Royalist myself, but have you seen the Royals of Europe? Of Sweden and Monaco and Spain? They are AMAZING. Okay some of them are the off-spring of Grace Kelly so how could they not be amazing (she's my idol) but come on, it really was getting unfair. Now we've got a future Queen who can proudly stand among them as a fashion icon in her own right, and what does she choose to wear? High Street. That's right, for our future King and Queens official engagement photo, Kate wore a dress from none other than Reiss. That's what makes me like her so much, she is completely accessible and it's not above everyday girls to dress like her (though you'll have to join a mile long waiting list for that particular dress). She is the perfect model on which we can showcase the best of British design. You go girl!
Are You Fur Real?
I feel I have been neglecting my blog somewhat but that is not due to a lack of care, more to the sheer amount of things that had to be completed to uni/bought for presents before christmas. I have however, been making a few observations over the festive period such as the change in weather, mood and fashion. All of which, I feel, are connected. There are several holiday events and outings that require much excting outfit plannage. One of these events for me was being invited by my flatmate to the opera with her family. This was a great chance to pack away my pjs (I had taken them to wearing them in layers in our freezing flat) and dust off one of the many frocks i'd purchased without an event to wear them to, such as a yet-unworn ballgown (someone is bound to ask me to one in the future and its on sale, was my thinking). The most exciting thing to bring out again this year was my fur coat. Yes it's real, yes thats bad, but its a vintage heirloom from my grandma, surely if the little mink was killed 40 years ago thats ok? And so begins the great debate. Everyone remembers the iconic scene in the Sex and the City when Samantha has red paint thrown at her furs, or as a small child how awful Cruella De Ville was (just to make absolutely clear i DO NOT condone the use of puppies for coats). J.Lo is another infamous fur-wearer. I do believe that its wrong in this day and age to kill animals for coats, but for me, vintage is fine and I am still going to wear mine. I felt like a princess at the opera in my coat. Now all I need is for someone to ask me to a ball...

To Heat or not to Heat?
The flat is freezing and I dread poking my toe out the covers in the morning. Put the heating on you say? No I'd rather spend the money on layers and layers of clothes! Even if I crack a tooth chattering my way out of the shower...
Fashion? Shallow? I Don't Think So!
Some people claim fashion is shallow, self-indulgent and a waste of time. I couldn't disagree more! There is not one item of clothing in my wardrobe that doesn't evoke a memory or a feeling. Don't get me wrong, some of the events the clothes were worn to were self-indulgent or shallow, but they were always with friends, family and loved ones and I had a great time. That in itself makes the clothes deep and meaningful. Even if the event attended was a sad occasion, it's important to have that memory and the outfit reminds me. I was thinking of this on my birthday this week, when my dad presented me with the present he picked. It was a shirt, the new Scotland football strip with my name and the number 6 for my date of birth and it was perfect. It may not be high fashion but not all clothes we cherish have to be, but it means so much to me. I went to my first football game when I was about 5, and went to my first world cup when I was 7. I was absolutely hooked! Ever since it has been me and my dads time, something we always do together and has spanned hundreds of games and a fair few countries. I always feel so proud to put on my mini kilt and Scotland strip and next time, with my new shirt, will be even more special. It represents my love of my country, the game and my dad, can you tell me, what's shallow about that?

Aviators - a must have or a one season wonder?
This season, I have been desperatlely swithering over the Aviator jacket. Effortlessly cool, I know it would rock up any simple outfit. It has taken the fashion world by storm, going from catwalk to high-street to bargain in a matter of weeks. However, I can't help thinking that this time next year I may be regretting the impulse purchase, and the price tag. I also may have missed the window in which to wear it this winter as I have now had to break out out my duvet-like Ralph Lauren, old faithful puffa (damn you Scottish weather!). Topshop however, may have provided me with the solution, bring out a faux version costing £58. I'm so very tempted. Tonight however, is the flat food shop and it's going to be a big one. With no juice, kitchen roll, washing-up liquid, tin-foil, toothpaste or food, my aviator debate will have to be put to rest. For now...

Icons & Bargains
I believe Style Icons are key to developing your own fashion identity. Follow their style, admire their taste but absolutely make it your own. For me, I admire many women, mostly strong, independent, classy women. Luckily my mum is one of the most beautifully dressed (and beautiful) women and I am constantly pinching items from her wardrobe! I think she cursed the day that my feet stopped growing and remained at her dinky size 4. She is the ultimate lover of a bargain, I'm not even sure if I remember her buying something without a discount! Always a good lesson. Another good lesson is it's not all about the price tag. In the winter my skin (as I'm sure many peoples' skin does) becomes dry and irritated. After much time (and money) spent trying out different lotions and potions my mum bought me the most wonderful body cream. Johnson's Baby Soothing Naturals Cream and I have never looked back. At the bargain price of £2.49 it is so worth it and all my friends are hooked! I am now a budding bargainista.
My First Post
My little cousin is my absolute style inspiration. At every family event we get together and discuss what fashions and items of clothing we are currently lusting after. We feel each others' pain, I am a student and she is a 13-year-old with a pocket money budget, I have to admit she does a lot better than me, her clothes are effortlessly chic and the items she chooses to buy are timeless. I decided to start a blog about our purchases, wants and loves. This first post is a bit of a confession. Despite having to pay the gas and virgin bills I have splurged on the Marc Jacobs iphone cover. I know, I know, it seems so wrong but the £30 price tag seemed such a reasonable price to have a piece of Marc to carry with me in my daily life! As a result of this purchase I am heading to work tonight as a guestlist girl on a night club door despite a raging sore throat and the harsh Scottish weather to make that 30 quid back...oh Marc what I do for you!
