Fashion? Shallow? I Don't Think So!

Some people claim fashion is shallow, self-indulgent and a waste of time. I couldn't disagree more! There is not one item of clothing in my wardrobe that doesn't evoke a memory or a feeling. Don't get me wrong, some of the events the clothes were worn to were self-indulgent or shallow, but they were always with friends, family and loved ones and I had a great time. That in itself makes the clothes deep and meaningful. Even if the event attended was a sad occasion, it's important to have that memory and the outfit reminds me. I was thinking of this on my birthday this week, when my dad presented me with the present he picked. It was a shirt, the new Scotland football strip with my name and the number 6 for my date of birth and it was perfect. It may not be high fashion but not all clothes we cherish have to be, but it means so much to me. I went to my first football game when I was about 5, and went to my first world cup when I was 7. I was absolutely hooked! Ever since it has been me and my dads time, something we always do together and has spanned hundreds of games and a fair few countries. I always feel so proud to put on my mini kilt and Scotland strip and next time, with my new shirt, will be even more special. It represents my love of my country, the game and my dad, can you tell me, what's shallow about that?
